“COVID-19 preludes an increase in divorces”
Rosa María Frasquet, a member of GENI, has been interviewed for an article in El Periódico in which she discussed the effects of the COVID-19 confinement regarding domestic coexistence and the situation for women. She spoke of the current situation’s consequences for women in regards to the distribution of domestic chores and responsibilities, as well as to the visibility of a worsened gender gap.
The current situation, however, may have according to Rosa Frasquet a silver lining, bearing in mind that such gender gap is more visible and that it’s provoking debates on responsibility, coexistence, and inequality. The anthropologist has argued for the need of collective and social understanding of conciliation, suggesting measures such as a basic income and paid leaves.
